Snowbee 4 Piece Spectre RMX Fly Rod – 9ft 6″ #7. S10014
The amazing Spectre® Fly Rod range, launched in 2017, has been upgraded for 2019! Incorporating the very latest American Tackle Microwave Stripper Guides for the ultimate line control performance.
Snowbee were the first UK company to incorporate American Tackle’s Microwave guide system into a range of spinning rods back in 2014. The resulting line control was nothing short of spectacular… and got us thinking whether the same technology could be applied to fly rods. Having worked closely with American Tackle since those early days, the new Microwave Fly Rod guides were finally launched in mid-2018.
Once again, Snowbee were the first company to embrace this new technology and the sensational new Spectre RMX fly rod prototypes were shown at EFTTEX in Amsterdam and ICAST in Orlando in 2018. The principle behind the Microwave guide system is really very simple. When a fly line shoots, it is leaving the rod tip at approximately 50-60 mph. In the ideal world there would be nothing to restrict this movement, allowing maximum line speed and distance. In reality, the friction through the rings, coupled with the ‘line-slap’ as coils snake up off the ground or a stripping basket, reduce this line speed considerably, as using conventional stripper guides, the line coils are merely decreased, as they travel up through the rings. What the Microwave stripper guide does, is immediately ‘tame’ these coils, allowing the fly line to travel the rest of the way up through the guide train, in an almost straight line, hence reducing point contact with the rings, and therefore friction, to allow increased line speed. What was also immediately apparent to us when testing the first prototypes, was just how much straighter the final presentation was, allowing not only increased distance, but also better line control and accuracy.
Benefits
Total line control
Increased rod performance
Increaesed casting distance
Increased casting accuracy
The Spectre® RMX range uses the very latest carbon fibre technology whose performance is un-matched at this price. For many years, Snowbee have used ‘multi-modulus’ carbon technology in the design of our blanks. By varying the tensile modulus of the carbon fibre lay-up along the length of the blank, allows us to precisely design and control the stiffness and flex in various sections, as well as the recovery speed of the tip takes this to a whole new level. The fine profile blanks use predominantly 40 ton carbon fibre, blended with a small amount of 36 ton, to deliver the precise crisp, middle-to-tip action we required. The result is a fly rod that loads and unloads more precisely and smoothly, to provide that ‘light in the hand’, balanced feel that all fly rod designers strive for. To ensure this precise blank design is not altered in any way, we use an ‘un-ground’, natural finish. Precise engineering of the carbon matt lay-up produces a double-helical ‘hoop pattern’ in the carbon fibre and leaving this intact, adds strength to the blank, whilst making the rod lighter, more durable and providing enhanced performance.
The modern action and performance, is matched by the contemporary finish. Compare a Spectre rod next to other brands – we don’t cover-up any blank blemishes with coats of paint and we don’t use opaque epoxy to mask sloppy guide whippings. We use natural finish blanks, clear matt varnish and transparent thread coatings that let our careful workmanship shine through. The clear matt varnish allows the beauty of the carbon fibre pattern to show through, while the matt finish eliminates ‘rod flash’ in bright conditions. Matching, self-colour whippings and the latest superlight, matt black aluminium reel seats complete the understated look. These new-look rods are bound to turn heads, but make no mistake, the Spectre fly rods are designed to catch fish, not fishermen… although their entire look is bound to appeal to the serious fly fisher looking for every advantage over his or her quarry, without having to spend a fortune or worry about ‘shelf appeal’.
Built with stainless steel guides with a super-hard titanium coating, providing less line friction through the rings. The latest American Tackle MW18 Microwave guides feature their hard, black diamond finish, with high grade Nanolite ring liners, to reduce weight and friction to the minimum, while the snake guides are high-lift, American pattern, with oversize hayfork tip rings, to maximise line speed.
The Spectre RMX rods also feature ‘angler friendly’ touches like alignment dots to quickly line-up your fly rod sections and self-indexing reel seats, with a small diamante ‘marker’ to quickly get your reel on the rod, allowing you to concentrate on the fishing.
Ideal for rivers and small stillwaters, where a slightly faster action and additional power is required for longer distance casting.
